Hello there! Thanks for being interested enough in me and my work to click on the “About” page!
I am never really quite sure what to put on this page. It seems like a good idea to brag about my qualifications and achievements, but I am not very good at either of those things. So instead I will tell you a little bit about myself.
I am a Seattle native and have finally after over thirty years somewhat adjusted to the Northwest weather. I fell in love with photography when I saw my first black and white print develop in the darkroom of my middle school at age eleven. I have been trying to figure out how to make it something I can do every day for the rest of my life ever since.
I originally looked at becoming a photojournalist and followed that road for a while. However, I became disillusioned with the way news is distributed and began to refocus on how to use photography and my natural curiosity about people and places as a career. I attended Seattle Central Community College’s Commercial Photography School where I learned all of the technical aspects of photography. I put it to use assisting in product studios and assisting wedding photographers. I enjoyed both, but wasn’t sure I was ready to strike out on my own. I returned to school at the University of Washington where I earned a Bachelors in Cultural Anthropology. Through UW I was able to study in Mexico and learn fluent Spanish.
I soon realized that there is no straight line to walk in life to “becoming a photographer” and continued explore different kinds of photography while working many jobs to pay the bills. Some of the more memorable are working for Ivey Imaging with an amazing crew learning the ins and outs of the digital print process, working as a school pictures photographer driving out to the peninsula at 4 a.m. and setting put my little light set and backdrop to photograph cute elementary kids with missing teeth, and of course assisting many different photographers running to and fro with their equipment and reflectors.
Eleven years after graduating, I finally decided to make a go of it on my own. It has been an interesting journey so far and surely it isn’t over yet. With support of my wonderful husband, who is often my lovely assistant as well, I hope to turn a passion in to a successful business that will enable me to spend time with my beloved daughter and raise her in an atmosphere of love and art.
So, that is what I am about at the moment. Feel free to contact me to chat and learn more if you would like. My favorite aspect of photography is the human aspect and connecting with my clients is important to me. I enjoy reveling in the beauty of the moments of life by capturing them for my clients to relive for years to come.
